Lazy days

There is always something to do in a garden. Something for every mood. If I'm feeling like a workout....digging.  Feeling peeved? Weeding. Feeling like I want to take out my bad mood on something....having a good old go with the secateurs.

But there's something I'm never in the mood for ...and that's mowing the lawn. Hate it , won't do it. In fact there's three things that I avoid as much as humanly possible - reversing the car, morris dancing and mowing the lawn.

However, I digress.

On Friday afternoon I was at home. I didn't feel like doing anything- I wanted to lay in the garden. In fact I'd wanted to do just that last weekend too, but we had rain....and a storm or too....

Look at this storm about to come in.....

But on Friday afternoon I felt so tired, I just wanted to lay in the garden and do nothing. I'd been awake since 5am, at work since 6am doing live inserts into the breakfast programme followed by a stint in court. I wasn't in the dock you understand....just reporting from there,  in case you were wondering.

Anyway I got home just before three and  the sun was shining, so.....

I lay in the garden reading....

under the old ash tree

Looking up into the sky..just thinking and listening to the drone of a plane flying over, and the thrum thrum thrum sounds of Mark or Phil three fields away in their combine harvesters.....

It was all very peaceful until I was joined by my furry faced, faithful little friend....

who wanted to play

For once , I declined her offer of a romp around the garden, and so Boo decided to join me and have a doze in the sunshine.....

Peace , perfect peace, doing nothing, lying with my dog in the sunshine. And it was perfect...

Moments captured from a busy week, sunshine stolen for an afternoon from a miserable summer weatherwise...it made me realise how I don't do this often enough.

Today's track is Summer Time..I love this song - always have. There's so many versions....but here's one of my favourites featuring Billie Holliday......

  1. None of us have done it often enough this year. Surely the whole point of a garden is being able to sit and read in it? If it's nothing but work, then where's the fun?

  2. Now that's a novel idea, to just relax and enjoy the garden... must find some time... you make it look so inviting.

    1. Carolyn, it was difficult to relax at first....becuase I could see all the weeds to my left as I lay there. And there really is a lot to be done in the garden at the moment. I jsut shut my eyes to it all...and I'm so glad I did!

  4. What a lovely view from your garden. I really don't mind mowing the lawn but I can't reverse park.My next dog (if there is one) will be the same as Boo.

  5. I can reverse park (but badly) but after several bouts of whiplash, I do find reversing uncomfortable. Can't turn my neck far enough.....and yes, before anyone has a go, I do use my wing mirrors!

Re Boo....we've decided we are going to let her have puppies!

    1. You have to get one of those cars that reverse parks by itself. Oh she'll have lovely puppies but what hard work.

    2. That would be a wonderful car Anne! As for the puppies....yes, hard work but worth it.....because I do want another little Boo....and have already chosen the name (advanced planning or what???)_

  7. Loved this post! Your reply to Carolyn reminded me of myself - when I try to relax in the garden, I keep jumping up to pull weeds. Even if I can restrain myself from doing that, I still notice every little thing that needs doing. I'm trying to train myself not to do that.

    1. Hello Jean.....welcome to thinking of the days. Well, my training on not noticing is coming along well now!If I noticed every weed, I'd be a complete nutcase by now because there are so many of them at the moment.

Seriously though, we've had such a rotten summer here and so few days when you can actually get into the garden to sit for a while, I don't feel so guilty either.
